When you only started the South Beach Diet, there are several food restrictions. But mostly, you are not to consume saturated fats and most types of carbohydrates.
In time, however, sources of carbohydrates are progressively added to your diet. However, these should all be strictly low GI carbs.
Saturated fats are only added in the final phase and only in small amounts.
